That is exactly correct. I used to race smaller engines, Watercraft, and the fuel ratios and octane ratings had to be exact or we blew up. We drained the tank if it sat more than a few days. I used to store my race jugs in a cooler with ice on it, so it didnt loose octane. Race fuel is basically a way to cool the motor, unless you are running something like tolene or oxygen. We also use to add phenyl oxide, which is similiar to nitrous. There are a lot of folks who can blend fuel to your specific set- up. If the compression ratio is not there, and the timing is not there-more octane and some times oxygen will burn to slow and you will detonate. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Think of it as burning cleaner and smoother- slower and longer. A lot of race fuels have a lot of lead, therefore lubricate. That will save the motor. I know the ratios we are running, and I dont see any benefit of running race fuel. That is a very elementary explanation. Hope it helps.

I know it puts me 1 1/2 mph below OPA and 1 1/2 mph above SBI.....but we have a easy fix with SBI.....if its humid and hot....she will only do 91.5 to 92....if not, we just add a extra 30 gallons of fuel.....

See ya next week.....

Randy, there are certain different additives you can put in the fuel to add more hp but they are definently not legal in our race boats. You got something up your sleeve for next year??

we used to run against a certain competitor who ran P.O. it smelled like the stuff they run in rc cars/planes. The only way to detect it is with chromatography "sniffers"
