nigel hooks boat

i just had a question ,curiosity really, about nigel hooks scarab ( it is a scarab ?). when i was in key west for the races i was looking at the boat on duval street and some one told me that it was a heavily modified scarab. said it had been streached/stepped/cut and highly altered from its original form. is there an advantage in going through this kind of effort rather than replacing the hull. being a glass guy i understand the work involved in adding steps and length to a boat. just seemed like a HUGE amount of work. although the boat does seem to go pretty good . . .like i said. . .just curious really. . .

Nigels 38ft he ran in Key West is
the OLD Citgo #21 that won the
Worlds championship in "B" class
a few years ago.
The 43ft was also built in SoCal
With a different Bottom.
The 38 had the same step bottom
added to it that is on the 43
but it was removed just before
Key West and since the old bottom had NOT been removed only no major cutting was involved.
Any other details you would have
to contact Nigel.
