?'s about P-5
What are the rules for P-5. I know it's up to 70MPH but is there a boat size limit. Whats the smallest size allowed and the largest. With all this talk about APBA/SBI/OSS, which one is gonna be the best? Probably stir all kinds of sh*t but which one is good for a local guy just wanting to do a couple races. I'm from Cincy, Ohio. Great lakes? Whats the deal with that? Sorry for so many questions but I figured you guys could steer me in the right direction better than anyone else. We have a small team of guys looking to do this and I guess i got put in charge of the race part. Thanks in advance for any help.

As a local team from the great lakes Region, I guess you'll be starting off racing with the Great lakes Racing Circuit. Being that it is in your backyard and they are a great bunch of people.

APBA has a size limit of 28 feet in P5 single or twin Max speed 69.9
SBI has no size limit in P5 with MAX. Avg. Lap speed of 64.9
OSS currently, has NO P Classes. This may change in the future.
OPA in NJ has a minimum of 24 feet and Max of 29 single engine only and a max speed of 70 mph
Usually, the smallest boat requirement is 24 feet, but I have seen 22 footers in some races.
Good luck

Thanks for the quick response! We are jsut getting things rolling with this and I hope to get in a race this year but will probably have to wait till next year. Looks like the Great lakes series is the one to start with. We might have a small team of boats from 22' to 28'. Is the Great lake's racing part of APBA or someone else, or just there own series?

Tim,
Start with the Cincinnati Offshore GP June 18-20, 2004 at Sawyer Point, and then do the New Richmond Offshore GP August 6-8th. You are within 20 minutes of each. Louisville is also only 90 minutes away Labor Day weekend.
Keep in mind you could also lease a boat for P5 or P4 with the new 400HP Engines and run a few boats under the new FA Flagship.

Thanks Chris,
Not sure if we'll be racing this year, but trying to get some info so we can get things rolling. Myself, Byron and the boys were going through some of my poker run tapes the other week and I have a bunch of footage of you guys running up close. I'll have to get some copies for you. I'm sure I'll see you on the river this year, I'll through some tapes in the boat to give you.
