So if my gauges are reading 5400 they are wrong, the engines will stop themselves at 5250?

Randy,
I believe the rev limit on the HP500efi's are set at 5400RPM's. The 502 Mag efi's are 5250.
What props are you running now?

They are set at 5250,but the tach will run up higher. When u get up to 5400 ,5500 the rev limiter will kick in. You can still turn higher R's you will just loose HP. When your on the limiter, the engine will start to cut out cylinders automatically. Its not like the old day when u hit the limiter that the engine would shut down. Now you only loose one cylinder at a time in the firing order.

I was told by Mercury High Performance that the 500 EFI rev limiter is set to drop 1/2 of the fuel injectors at 5450 and will not turn them back on until the RPM's drop under 5250+-. This makes it seem like the limit is 5250, but if you sneak up on 5400, no problem. In racing your screwed since its almost impossible to stay in the water all the time without overreving.
