RANDY LINEBACH LAID TO REST

On Thursday, April 29, 2004, Offshore racer Randy Linebach was laid to rest in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Randy touched the lives of all who knew him in Offshore racing. With hundreds in attendance at Randy’s service, it was obvious he had also touched the lives of his family, friends, business acquaintances, and his community.

Randy began his racing career in 1994 when he built and raced the boat "Aftershock". He made his national offshore debut in June, 1999 in Corpus Christi, Texas with the "Cat Can Do" team. He then raced his own boat, "Airborne Big Thunder" on national and divisional circuits from 2000 to 2003. Randy was a designer and builder of 50’ and 53’ luxury high performance catamarans.

Randy was one of the founding members of the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association and was part of creating the vision of the new organization. Randy was the first owner to turn in his membership form for the inaugural season.

The OSS plans to retire the number #24 at the next Offshore Super Series race scheduled for St. Petersburg, Florida on June 25 - 27, 2004.

Randy’s spirit will live on in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he lost his life while testing on Friday, April 23 for the inaugural Smokin’ The Sound. The OSS and the Smokin’ The Sound Committee plan to honor him with the Randy Linebach Perpetual Trophy which will symbolize a lighthouse, a Biloxi landmark and symbolize the special light Randy shed on all who knew him. The trophy will be awarded as a Sportsmanship Trophy at the 2nd Annual Smokin' The Sound scheduled for April, 2005 and will be passed on from year to year.

The OSS asks the offshore community to keep the Linebach family in their hearts and prayers.
