Sirois throttled for Johnson when they won the World's in '88 in the Gentry V-Bottom. After that, Powers throttled for Johnson when they raced the 50' USA cat.

Re: Copeland/Sirois Breakup????
the reason they split was not a dispute over anything other than they had raced together for years and Bill was tired of the stress and strain that comes with running a program such as Al's. No matter how strong the team everyone deserves a time to relax now and then and to do so Bill felt that it was time to leave and go back home to his family in Sarasota. That's all there is to it.

I almost was. I was friends with and worked for Bill for many years with different teams and we talked about his time with Al often.

Back to the boat...what ever happened to it (the Goetz hull)? Does Al still keep it around as another toy or did it get sold? Just curious...that was my favorite boat when I was a kid.

I guess he thought this was important so I would take him at his word.
And thank him, too.

Re: Copeland/Sirois Breakup????
FYI Al and Bill and Myself raced over 100 races together. To try and be polite about your inquiry I will give you my .02. The statement about stress on that program is correct. As well it could be after producing the results that were accomplished. Bill and I remained friends until he left us as did Al and Bill. There is no dark secret no bad story. Just three friends who raced togetherand then on the same course but in different boats. Bill has 2 great sons who are very sucessful in there fields. Al is still around waiting to unviel his latest creations. And I am replying to this in hopes to keep a remarkable frindship and team from being blemished in any way.
Thanks
