Opa P6
OPA is entertaining the idea of putting a true entry level race class together. P6 would be 24ft length, single engine, average lap speed of 60mph. This class is designed to bring in new racers or pleasure boaters at a very low cost. The idea is for less than 20K you can be racing. There are MANY former race boats that fit the requirements that can be bought for cheap. All ideas are welcome........lets hear what you think. PM me of email to [email protected]
Later......Qball
P.S.- Sharkey.....the SOB's are invited also.....

Nevermind the email Qball...
I'll tell you what I think right here in a public forum.
I think it is a great idea!!!
Anything that can get the average guy out there to get bit by the racing bug, it will hopefully bring more boats! Maybe even some SOB's!

What happened to the meeting that was supposed to take place before the party in philly now that it is moved to jenks no more said about it. Any changes to P5 ? No new rules posted on opa site yet either. Still no twin engine? not sure what we are gonna do this season. At this point I don't know if we could even put a boat together.

This would be a great way for SOBs to get in. It might also allow more flexible rules in P5 so some more boats might be able to run there also. I know Smitty is real reluctant about adding a class but if it will help grow the boat count and get more people in, anything is possible. And there are lots of bone-stock boats out there that would be perfect P6 contenders.

Re: Opa P6
I think this is a great idea, but maybe the overall length should be 25 or 26' there are a lot of regular pleasure boats out there that would be competative, Like a 25' Baja, 25' Checkmate, 27' Fountain, 26' Sonic ect. It would be a true entry level class. If someone had say a 1993 25' Checkamte with Mercury 502 they would be competative. It they wanted to race P-5 they wouldn't have a chance. Are most P-5 boats old race boats? And even if you didn't have a boat or didn't wan't to race your present boat, you could go out and buy a boat to race for around $ 10,000-15,000 if not less. I think there would definately be room for this class. Kirk
