Re: Who went to races as a kid, and now races?
Hey guys that was a while ago and it sounds like it was great to take your family and kids to a race, now a days you can not do that because there is too much drinking going on and too much skin fling around during the day to bring kids down to watch a race or to travel to a race site to watch the race. I thought that racing was supposed to be fun and family originated where you can bring kids and the racers themselves would stay by their boats or in a center location where kids could talk with them or get autographs on their t-shirts or in the programs. At some race sites kids can not go into bars or into a VIP tents to meet the racers. Someone needs to have an evening for kids and keep the racers out of the bars at least for one night for the kids. You people can say all you want on an internet website but lets see it in person, lets take all of this negative talk and turn it around to make it a positive thing for all the racers and their sponsors and most of all for our families and our viewers. No I am not a racer nor am I an equipment owner I am just a volunteer that gets taken advantage of one too many times and I have been burned by all of this fighting between people and clubs, I wish to God that I could bring my kids to a race because my daughter loves it and she wants to race one day. Hey I am sorry if I am boring you folks but this just my 2 cents and I know it may not even be worth that much they everyone bashes everybody on the site, but hey I am taking my chance and I am not afraid to sign my name. Here I am

Julie, I am sorry you've had bad experiences, my two year old comes to every race and my niece and nephew come to many (ages 6&8). I have never seen anything offensive happen near them. Our pit area is definately kid friendly and I can't tell you how many have taken pictures in my boat and with my helmet on. I can appreciate you feelings, but from my perspective, I don't see it. You and your family are welcome anytime in our pit area.

Julie,
Sorry to hear of your bad experiences, but I can assure you it's not that way with OPA and the Boyz...my daughter (10) loves attending the races and events..and is very excited to see everyone this weekend at the OPA Awards Dinner...
Try a roadtrip to an OPA Event..truly a Family Atmosphere....

Thank you all for understanding and yes I will bring my kids to an OPA event, Like Cape Cod. I will see you there and my daughter is 16 and my boy is 13 so this should be fun. Thank you very much.

Re: Who went to races as a kid, and now races?
my dad took me to the races when i was a kid, now i have been crewing and racing for 18 years, it is in my blood, so many friends so much fun. as far as a kids go i cant count how many times i have let them sit in the boats, put the helmets on, signed autographs, etc. i enjoy talking to future racers no matter thier age. just come by the firewater team and ask for wayne o. and you will see what i mean.
