Default The man behind AMFOffshoreracing.com (Part 1)

Many of you have been asking about www.AMFOffshoreracing.com, so here is a little background info on the man behind it all!

As the classic 80s song, from the motion picture Short Circuit goes “Who’s Johnny”? Undoubtedly, Dazed and Confused, the Jersey Skiff he raced in the 80s sums it up nicely. Confused about what his true zest for life was, defines the first decades of his life, and Dazed is what he is nowadays by the concept of running jet turbine engines in a V-bottom hull powerboat. And this is where John finds himself today with his new venture, www.AMFOffshoreracing.com.

Let me introduce to you John B. A. Haggin, born February 26, 1957 in New York City, and instantaneously uprooted to Mexico City, Mexico. He spent his early childhood years assimilating into the Mexican culture, until he and his family moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where his father continued to raise Black Angus beef. More content with “La Dolce Vita”, than rural Virginia, the Haggins packed it up and set-out for the posh and pretentious isle of Palm Beach in Florida.

Aficionado of the jet-set, life in the fast lane, style of living in luxurious Palm Beach, John’s father entered phase one of what would lead to a series of Donzi purchases, which then lead to a friendship with the “Don” of powerboats Don Aronow. Weekends soon started to be spent with Aronow and the likes of celebrities such as Lee Marvin, splashing the Donzi with frequent trips to the Bahamas. Encircled by competent racers, it was only a matter of time before John Jr. who was now in his late teens evolved into an adrenaline junkie. An18 feet Donzi, with a blown 454 was his first watercraft which soon after triggered the race-bug in him. Tom Sayward would be his partner in the JS-77 Jersey Skiff, known to racers and enthusiasts as simply, Dazed and Confused. Tom and John raced Dazed and Confused to numerous titles throughout Southern Georgia and Florida until racing ceased for the duo, when the Jersey Skiff program changed courses and steered its events to locations in the Northern United States. John continued to run his Donzi full-throttle in Florida and held on tighter to the sticks, than to first wife, Roxanne Pulitzer. Wearing various titles including- Palm Beach party girl, Foxy Roxy, debutant, and illustrious novelist, Roxy continues to be his best friend even though the marriage didn’t last.

Part 2 in the following thread, as this wouldn't all fit in one.
