Cat Question??
I'm curious about the increase of insurance when you get over 30 ft. Incrementally, is it just as feasable to insure a 32 as it is a 36? Or is it mainly based on the power?
I'm ready to step up to a 30 - 32, however if the insurance is virtually the same, I might hold off another year to step up to a 36.
Thanks in advance!

There are actually lots of variables although other than hull value I'm not sure length is a big concern for the insurance companies. Its mainly speed and operator experience I think.
Might move this to the insurance section.

If the golf carts had to have insurance, the rates on them would be higher than the cats.

The insurance companies have formulas that they use to predict your boats potential speed based upon power. Hull value and boater history are the other main pieces. With the same power and hull value they will probably be more accepting of a 36 than a 32. There formula will probably say the 36 is slower (May not be the actual case) just my experience. If it is a common boat the insurance agent can often tell you exactly where the underwriter will draw the line in regards to horsepower. I would get a quote from Merkel on a 32 and a 36 that you are considering and your question will be answered.
