Boat Wrecked into Goat Island Beacon
I was down at my neighborhood dock this morning and noticed a boat with a lot of damage. The boat is a Sea Ray 280SS with twins. The GRDA was writing a report when I was down there, and apparantly the driver ran up on the beacon at Goat Island, and destroyed it, when driving back from the Duck Creek fireworks last night. Thank God, all passengers were sitting in the back part of the boat and nobody was significantly injured. Based on the damage to the hull, i'm surprised the boat didn't sink, and they were able to make it back okay. I'm trying to upload pics of the damaged boat, but not sure if I know how to upload them.

The most dangerous 45 minutes on the lake, ever.. 400 boats trying to leave the same cove at the same time after hours of drinking and celebrating.. Its bound to happen every year.. How they missed the flashing light on the lighthouse is beyond me...
Glad everyone lived!!

With weight in the back and keeping it just on a plane, that part would stay out of the water. Surprised they haven't been given a hit n' run citation for hitting the buoy.
We planned to be out last weekend, but weather was terrible. Can only imagine the trouble this year with all the drinking people have been doing.

After I left the dock yesterday, my dad talked more to the GRDA officer, and GRDA apparently was in agreeance that the beacon light was not working at the time of the accident, so I guess that explains more as to why it was hit?

Im just wondering what would happen to one of us if we were sittin on the water with out lights? Or one of our docks wasnt lit and someone ran into it. Do you think the GRDA would write us a ticket? Bad night for the lighthouse not to be working!
