Anyone have any suggestions for someone that lives in St Joseph, MI and wants to go south with their go fast? We don't have time to go to LOTO, but we can make a 3-4 hour trip. Suggestions? (We want to procure temporary slips with shorepower....fancy words for a hillbilly, I know...)

A boat?....What boat??? How about a galvanized warsh tub wit a tornady strapped own da rear!
Hey Mark-----been a long time! A few weeks ago I spent the night at a friend's house and was just getting on the express way from Coloma Road headed for South Haven when you passed me. Where were you going that day?

I know you're looking to head south, but have you ever been up to Grand Traverse Bay, or Charlevoix with your boat yet? Elk Rapids is a beautiful spot to launch from on the bay as well or you can go into Elk Lake and up the Torch River into Torch Lake.

How about going up to Cheboygan and up the Cheboygan River into Mullet Lake and Indian River to Burt Lake? From Cheboygan you can also go into Lake Huron and go to Macinaw Island.

I plan on going up north somewhere for Labor Day weekend---still not sure what exactly I'm going to do yet. I know of several boaters that plan on being up there as well.

Mark

We were going to go up North, but a few years ago when we took a week off and went to Torch Lake, Traverse, etc. it got down to 35 degrees at night. And we were at Torch lake due to 8'ers on the big lake and there are no slips there, so we also had no heat. Nothing like waking up with frost on the mirror in the cabin.

We were able to get grandparents to watch the kids for labor day weekend, so we can take a trip and actually have conversations with people. We just don't want to run into cold or more rain, which it looks like the forecast is shaping up to bring us. I think a few others are going with us, so we're looking at what our options are 4-5 hours south of Michiana.

A few weeks ago we went to Holland and spent the weekend there. I honked as I passed, but not sure if you heard me over those 6 15" subs in the trunk bumpin your phat tunes I don't see myself using the Holland state park launch ever again. Talk about a small launch for the volume of boaters. Argh.

Lake Comberland (Spelling???) may be a good spot for you. I've never been there yet so, I don't know much about it.

We did the poker run a few years ago. Awesome run, great time. There are usually 150-200 boats. We'll do it again someday, but the kids slow us down on doing poker runs since they're so young yet. Maybe next year.

If it were closer, we'd go there for the weekend, but it's a long drive. About the same as LOTO from here since it's so far south relatively speaking in KY.

Thinking about Monroe Lake in IN. Any feedback from anyone other than US1 Fountain (who I've emailed already)?

I would pass on Monroe. From what I hear its not worth the drive. I would go North if weather permits. If not boat down south on the big lake, New Buffalo, Michigan City, Chicago etc. PM me if you are coming this way.

Boating

From the looks of the weather, the season is closing fast. We're hoping to get out once or twice more. Here is a pic of our boat, btw, if we see each other out.

BTW, Kaama, we wound up going up north to Hardy Dam. Weather was awesome, so we headed up North. That, and a couple other boats were going that way, so we decided to stick with them instead of going south alone. Someday we'll try it I'm sure. Gotta see where US1Fountain hangs out
