Air and Water Show Chicago
Can anybody help me with a little info?
I used to work boats out of Navy Pier back in the day doing wedding cruises , etc. Had a blast, especially the air and water show. I now live in NC and want to haul my boat (probably fountain 33') to ChiTown for the A&WS. What are the do's and donts if I want to put in at Diversey harbor? Will it be just madness? Any help/tips would be appreciated, thanks

If you seriously want to stay/launch at Diversey, the best advice i can give you for the show would be to get yourself a slip and come out atleast 2 days before the show!! We made a fatal mistake one year and tried to launch the morning of the show on Sat at Diversey......they closed the gates to the launch ramps/parking lot at 8:00AM cause they were all full!!!
You may get away with it the day before the show on their practice day but even those days can get crowded at the ramps!

Don't forget about the Calumet Park launch ramp farther south. Monroe St. Harbor will let you tie to one of their cans and provide tender service for fairly cheap - I did that a few years ago and cabbed it to Greek town for dinner - a blast.

thats gonna depend on the events going on around the area at the time you try and do that! we tried to tie up to an open can on the 4th one year.....werent there 5min before the harbor master came around and kicked us off....said they were all reserved. The following year we reserved one and got lucky as were were 2nd row center from the barge that shoots all the fireworks off. It was by far the best display i have ever seen in my life! You could feel the boat flex and rattle from the big mortars going off!!!
On a busy weekend like the air show or the 4th i would call ahead of time and reserve yourself one if you wanted to.
