Re: 38 slingshot info?
If you are going to run stock power such as 500 efi's you should be very pleased with the 38 Hustler. The 38 in the 80's will ride and handle awesome. To me there's no better all around boat than the Hustler Slingshot for the money. I have a friend with another 38 up here and he runs the crap out of it. He was going to sell it but then he decided to keep it being he liked it to much. They spend every other weekend on it too. Up here when I used to run my 38, we always ran with 2 42 Fountains and my buddies Slingshot. I must say though that the 42 Fountains have a great ride. I can convert my motors back to 500 efi's if desired.
Good luck on your search.

I have two good friends who both own 388 Slingshots. One has 575SCs and the other has 800HP big power blower motors. They are great boats and run very well with aforementioned power.
What's your price range?

Runafever, 500 EFI's best we have seen on GPS 82-84 depending on conditions. We whippled in April 2006 and after a little tweaking best we have seen 97.8 GPS, half a bag of fuel three people spinning herring 5 blade 32's in at 5600-5700 rpm.
Fountains are great but to common. My wife, four daughters and myself absolutely love this boat.We are going into our fifth season with no complaints. You do have to learn to drive this beauty past the 94 mark with a little tab help.
We cruise all day long 4500-4700 @ 80-85mph GPS.The Whipple's are great on fuel to. No complaints.

Re: 38 slingshot info?
A good friend of mine is on his 3rd or 4th Hustler...I cant remember, they all run together..lol Anyway, he loves them and has upgraded every year and wouldnt change for anything.
His first was with 500's and the numbers stated earlier are correct. His newest has 950's with Arnenson ASD-6's, which is the most insane thing Ive ever seen... It will run 90 at 3800rpm, and we have no idea what WOT would do...it gets waayyyy to squirrely above 100 cause of the Arnesons. I would really be surprised if there was any other boat out there faster from 40 to 100, its absolutely incredible
I rode in it at Smoke on the Water in 2006 and it was a rough day. I think we had 6' to 8's a lot of the day. The boat handled good around 80 in 4' to 6's, but it was beating us pretty good so we slowed it down.
I agree with the people here, IMO,if I was going to choose between a 388 and a 38 Fountain, I'd go with the 388
