I have state farm on house boat cars etc. I also have to deal with them on a daily basis running a body shop. One of the reasons I keep them for insurance is because they do not use aftermarket crash parts such as bumpers fenders hoods etc. I was told in our area that it is used or new on those type of parts. They have been using aftermarket parts such as radiators and condensors. As far as claims go I had the stereo stolen out of theboat last year sent them recipts and had a check in about a week. I had a claim on my lexu a few years ago where the tv got stolen out of it and the scwrewd the car up in the process. The adjuster showed up at the shop looked over my estimate and cut me a check and allowed me to fix it myself. In Cincinnati I would say the are one of the better insurance companies to deal with atleast from a body shop standpoint.

We too have had SF for over 25 years. I swear they have named a wing on their building after us due to all the policies.
In that length of time (25 years), we have had claims,(5 or 6) My wife was hit by a drunk driver, I was hit by an un-insured, and my snowmobile trailer tried to pass us one time on a very icy stretch of road.(the truck was still attached to the trailer, not something you ever want to experience)
We never had to deal with any injuries, just damage, so we were lucky. In all cases the body shop was an approved shop of State Farm, we never saw a bill,(except where deductables applied) The body shop and SF handled everything.
But the largest and most difficult claim was 4 years ago, we had one of our trailers stolen along with our snowmobiles, race equipment, etc... IT SUCKED! We had Large deductables on everything, the sleds, trailers, contents etc, so they came up with a number, subtracted the deductables and cut us a check. It took 60 days due to it being a theft and having to go through all the hoops. (the sheriff department ended up locating the sleds and what was left of the trailer 3 weeks into the problem which complicated everything more because of course everything was severly damaged and stripped)
But I have to say, even though it was a very bad time, our agent, the adjuster and the company attempted to make us feel better about what was going on. The adjuster gave us as high of retail for our sleds and trailer as he could find, and was very fair about the final numbers. (then they subtracted the deductable, which did I mention sucked!!!)
Bottom line, I feel your agent is without a doubt the MOST important part of the equation, not just the company and adjuster. If you have a good agent, that will make all the difference.

I have always been with state farm for everything EXCEPT my boats
As much as i love SF they do not have a clue to what they are insuring when it comes to Offshore boats and the coverage would not cover things unique to the offshore world
You go to your favorite doctor for most aches and pains but your go to a specialist when you need a more targeted diagnosis
Why use the General practitioner (State Farm) when what you really need is a specialist
