Default Insurance by the month?? why not??

I do it for my motorcycles (May thru Oct)? My towing truck (June thru Sept)?

My boating season begins end of June goes to mid Sept. I don't care about off season storage or any kind of damage coverage for the boat. Just PL/PD while I'm using it.....which probably won't help much because most suits are in the seven to eight figures.

All anyone wants to sell me is full coverage for a year...$3000 to $4000 ??

Randy

I have Progressive. They don't force you to pay it all in full for the year. I think I have the option to pay quartly, every 6 months, or 1 yearly payment. I assume your boat is paid in full; otherwise, you will be forced to have insurance all year because you have a loan. If you have a loan and don't have insurance, the loan police will get insurance for you and force you to pay it at their rate. If you don't, they can take your boat and auction it off, possibly leaving you with a balance you have to pay. If you don't owe anything on your boat, cancel anytime you want.....your FREE....

No, Progressive will not cover CAT hull boats.

The only CAT carriers are:

American Reliable - only for another year but they cut off at 15 years old
Markel
State National through Total Dollar - not sure if they will write yours as your boat is over 10 years
Chartis - will write up to 20 year old boat

As I mentioned to you, these carriers watch to see if you write a policy and cancel in the off season. The carriers give you lay up credit for your down time on the policy so they don't want to see you doing cancels in fall and rewrites in Spring. Carriers want to see continuous coverage. Often times, if they see this pattern, they will refuse to rewrite you in spring.

You don't want to burn bridges like that because the market for CAT hull boats is VERY small. Just my opinion and two cents.

Randy

That is because that is all most of the carriers offer. As brokers we don't make up the rules; the carriers establish those for us and we have to go by their key underwriting guidelines.

Many carriers write a full package policy. The only carrier you can get liability only through, to my knowledge is Markel... www.markelmarine.com

Have you called them?
