Yea, I'm gonna look into the coast guard reg. Some more. The only other problem I see with the coast guard reg is you get a pc of paper and your Boat name and home port have to be clearly visible. But without a valid state registration on the boat I would probably end up with every local water patrol stopping me asking why I had no registration. And oh since we are here let's see if those modified chevy v8s pass the local sound ordinance....

Well what sucks is that in PA , even if you document your boat with the coast gaurd you still have to have Pa registration on your boat. So they still get the sales tax . Got to love Pa. LOL You run a Pa registration sticker but no Pa numbers. Then your CoastGaurd number is placed under your engine hatch. Still gives them a reason to pull us over.

Hope this helps.

Speak to a documentation specialist to see if there are legal ways around things. Every state is different. Here's who I used.

Curious to what registration costs per year in AZ and the other states that don't charge the sales tax? PA reg is fairly cheap and is good for 2 years. Worth it not to get pulled over all the time. IMO

Yea registation is cheap enough, it just burns my ass to pay the state 6% sales tax on a used boat I bought out of state. Not to mension the money used to buy the boat was already taxed by the state when I earned it. And in my neck of the woods the great state has banned above water exhaust on the only decent lake you can run on without worrying about loosing one of your props or drives not to mension most of the public launch ramps were designed for a 14' jon boat. Guess that's why I haul to NY

I don't know if it's a flat rate or some calculation of variables. My registration is around $36 annual. There is a two year option but I don't think there is any discount, just convenience.

You don't necessarily have to use your home state as your port of call for documenting.
