Hey everyone. My family has been into boating for many years, so I guess you could say that I got into things fairly early. Anyways, I'm 28 years old, and have been driving boats for around 15 years. Never have had an accident while driving, or an insurance claim. During the past 5 years, I've owned 3 different high performance V-bottoms of various sizes, and all right near the 100 MPH range. My most recent boat was a 42' Fountain that did approx. 115 MPH. I've operated and been in many cats, but have never actually owned one myself. So since my wife and I have pretty much tried many types of "V's", we want to get a cat next.

The boat we just agreed to buy is a 2001 Eliminator 33' Daytona. Top speed is right between 115 and 120 MPH. We live in New York (Buffalo), and thats where the boat would be used (on Lake Erie & Niagara River primarily). So I guess I'm looking for insurance quotes or real world experiences with price and insurability from anyone who has a similar situation or has heard of one. I know some of you will say to start off with a cat thats a little slower for the first one for lower insurance rates, but I don't think I really want to bother getting a cat next if it means that it needs to be slower then other V-bottoms that I have had. The only thing left before I can tell the seller that our deal is 100% going to happen is getting my insurance on the boat. Thanks in advance for any help/advice/experiences everyone!!

Tell your dad that the premium will be between $3000-5000 a year.

This is just based on the research Ive done...
But all you can do is get a real quote from an Insurance company, to be positive.

Probably about three to four times more than what your 115 mph Fountain was. Cat insurance is a rip off (until you need it that is). I pay as much for insurance on my 28' cat as I do for my 3000 sq ft home!! Funny thing is rates depend highly on previous cat experience but once your insured your rate does not drop as your experience grows. You would think your rates would drop as the age of your boat increases, as does your experience but unfortunately with cats it seems te be just the opposite. Like I said rip off!

I have a buddy that just bought a 120mph first cat. 20+ years with V's and no accidents/claims. Greatlakes area and had to take Tres class. 6k a year.

Call Stacy at Wakezone. She quoted me when I was shopping for a Motion and it was reasonable.
