Default Need help on research of Magnumn Maltese

Purchased a 28 ft Magnum out of Cal. and it will be coming back to Illinois in about a month.Gentry Marine in Torrance acquired the boat in late 97 and re powered in with twin small blocks @ 600hp each.Boat has not seen much action since then however has had two owners.Boat came out of Santa Barbara( CF 2651h HY),called Magnum and they have no records before 1976.Boat was maroon in color white deck, has been re gel coated an is now all white. All hardware was powder coated and is red with traditional candy stripped seats.Any help on history prior to 1997 woul be appreciated

Yes that is the boat, however it has one aluminum block and the other is not...someone used regular vs 106 octane and blew the heads,we will bring back the original block for potential re-build. Other than normal wear by people who don't no how to maintain a boat of this caliber we had to replace one trans and the drive rams.
The boat was selected to display a new type of graphics which will be one third to one half the cost of painting a boat. All we require is a clean hull less hardware if possible and in one day you will have a new boat. Two more days for a special coating that has been developed which will provide higher gloss, depth and further protection...almost no need to wax but you can if you want to.
Unlike current vinyl products just starting to be used by the boating industry we have tested this extensively in fresh and salt water and with our special coating no other product will come close to our's.Company is known as boatwrapsz.com and the web-site is under construction and should be up and running by this fall.
We selected the Magnum because it is a classic, very trail-able and will be displayed for the 1st time at the Lake of the Ozarks shootout late August. If the boat is running well we will pull the silencer's and see if it will do the 85mph that the original builder says it will...we will see.We will post pictures on the Magnum before, current and once the final graphics are done.

Good luck, sounds like a great project.

I've heard of vinyl wrapping before, recently.
Is that your company? Do you have pictures of other boats?

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but..
I'm looking at buying a 1973 28' sedan (i think).
2 windows on the side, 350 small blocks volvo 290A
engines and 280 outdrives, distressed condition due to
poor outside storage, but 90 hours on engines and drives.
needs all new cushions and more. going to try to start
engines this weekend. last run in 1988. What could be the
value of this boat? thanks

There are a couple for sale on the Magnum Marine web site. Go to Magnummarine.com and look at the brokerage section. Value is a subjective thing.....the right buyer at the right time. The problem with the older stuff is CASH. The people with the cash want new and no one will finance the old boats. There are so many cool and wonderful old boats that have style and grace that just seem to fade away because to buy one takes cash. I have owned my Magnum for many years and love being to only one on the lake...... but if I were to ever sell it I'm sure I would not get the surveyed value.

Sorry for the ramble............

Bob, thanks for the reply, and no it's not a ramble.. makes sense
The boat in question is going for cheap money.
I guess my question is more to the type of engines and drives
and any other known issues with this year/style.
Looking at the ads on line, these are all really nice boats
in the 20-50 K range. the boat in question is not anywhere near
that. but if I picked it up for a few grand, and it ran, I don't
think I could go wrong. gel coat still fair, but soon a repaint.
also sitting this long outside, i've got to tear down the engines.
not sure about the out drives.. my current boat is a sail boat.
don't hold that against me.... but I've got a need for speed...
and I need to learn these type of drive systems.
Thanks again for insight you can offer.
Brian
