Hello Magnum Marine enthusiasts... I am sort of new to this boating forum (been a member since 2005 but never posted) and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a little about this boat .. HID 001 .....Could this be the first HULL off the assembly line? I know a little history regarding this boat...I understand she was originally named "RUM RUNNER" and used off the south shores of long island back in the 1970's......

Welcome to OSO! Your boat appears to be a 28 "Maltese Magnum" model. If you post the hull ID number it would be easier to identify the year etc. The Maltese' came about after the 27 "Sport" model, so I doubt it would be the first off the assembly line. The "Sport" and the "Maltese" have the same hull but different decks, most early models (late 1960's/early 70's) came with Volvo drives-yours has TRS drives-which makes me think it's a later version (mid 1970's???). Good luck with her!

On the 25 that I have * MAG250080273 * , I've been told by an ex factory employee that it was the 15th 25 ... the '2' designated that it was built in February of '73'
So if the placement of the numbers mean the same thing with yours , it would have been built in January of '75. So what does the '0500' part mean ?
mrvinyl has the build lists and they are very handy at sorting out these mysteries !

Madbouy, your 25 was the 8th' built out of 41 total. My list only shows 35 built, however according to other people from the factory there could have been 6 more built, and not listed. Bud
On the 28 Maltese ...that is a great boat, spoke with the original owners and was trying to find a good home for it.For your info it was the 50th one built of 100,gold was it's original color even tho it is a 75 ( Invoice 2/26/75) it is using 74 hardware.Originally had Merc 280's,volvo drives. Call if you want to discuss. Bud 312-607-3115

Well , the guy from the factory wasn't exactly a spring chicken ... but given that he had the number as well I always did wonder the significance of the '80' part of the number based on what he said.
Now we know.
