There is no way you could build/restore one of those to the point of where that one is for what is being asked.
If I had the coin lay'n around that boat would be in my drive way.
It also has a cool history.

I am here in the uk rebuilding a 1971 Magnum 27 Sport which I want very high standard. So spending $ 70,000 from my experience would not seem difficult. Yes we do live on "RIP-OFF ISLAND" with 20% sales tax and by the time I buy all the parts from the US plus the UPS charge and import duty it is not hard to spend big cash on an old boat.To date the cost of 5 coats of Awlgrip is $1500 for the paint alone, without labour, but what a shine. Plus a total engine rebuild with stroker kits. new Mayfair full power steering, new controls, engine instruments, Upholstery, new Teak laid deck insert ,new electrics, new covers etc etc and I had to buy the boat in the first place ! So to me if the boat is to a very high standard, I could see $70,000 without my many hours of labour as being just getting my money back.
But I am have the pleasure of saying "I did that" it`s 40 yrs old and its better than new . It`s all down to the standard, of what you want or will settle for and or what you can afford

Default Rebuilds

I also agree..the cost to rebuild is more than you think.I have done a few and the cost has ranged from $50,000-$100,000 just for parts, plus outside labor on some things better left to the pro's.
The two that I will be listing real soon will be in the $60-70,000 range.Yes I have three other that will range from $4,000 to $15,000 but will be great rebuilds when done. Bud

Hello Bud

What do you think is the aveage time it takes to restore one(man hours). understanding that each one is different depending on the amount of glass work and painting that needs to be done
I can understand if you have a rebuilt with no engines and or drives that the $$$ can add up very quickly.
Thank you
jim

Default Rebuild how long ?

Jim
The 1st item is how big is your checkbook...sufficient funds will get it done sooner than longer.Doing it on a budget, the least amount of time was a little over 1 year, the longest was just short of three years.Just can't get them done sooner, that is why the good ones should go for $50,000 to $150,000.

The new Magnum which will sell for around $260-$275,000 will not look like the original at all. I have seen it and posted pictures of it 3 years ago,the drawing on their web site is very close. I did see it 2009 when they were trying to get a mockup for the Miami show, but that never happened.

Attached is the shrink wrapped 27 before it left for Sebring. Bud

I had close to $100K into my restoration and sold it for
35K.
The one at Doller seems to be a good deal. If I was looking to get into another Magnum that would be the one I would look closely at.

That does look like a very nice boat, I was hoping to find something that already had some strong motors and drives or at least one or the other, do you know what kind of hp those volvo drives good for? I have heard they don't handle much power

The Volvos will handle well over 300HP, and i would think closer to 400HP,if you didn't beat on them hard out of the hole.
Am sure other can fill in more details

Thank you
jim

On this Mag [Magnum Force] we put 400 + big block hp through Volvo E drives and they lived. The next owner converted her back to a single with one bigger hp big block and raced her in the APBA - A class. I know Bob Sheers Matese has Volvo dual prop drives, and they handel his 400hp + 383cu small blocks very well.
