Default Volvo 270E or 270TE

Hey guys, Happy New year to you all. Does anyone have info on the Volvo Penta 270E or 270TE lower unit? How rare, still available, etc.? I have noticed that they have no water pickups either? Did this incorporate a hull mounted pickup? If so how were these mounted for twin engines?

Thank you in advance. Any word on a Magnum 50th Anniversary rendezvous in Miami? How cool would that be?

Jeff

Jeff, Volvo made them I believe to race in a class like a KT hull mated to a Volvo inline 6cyl [like the wood boat in the pic] . Many of the early Magnums & Cig's used them with small blocks as they did give them more speed but some say not as strong as a stock 270 or 280 drive. Jeff,, Li'l Smidgen & Lil Rhino all used them & did blow some of them up but for the day the Mag's did run. You did have to have a hull mounted water pickup. The 270TE is just a trimable drive, easy to make like I have done for my son's 18' Donzi works on any volvo 200, 250, 270, or 280 drive. Iron heads Magnum [SUBLUXATOR] barn find has a set of E drives on this Mag, I like them. The Ad I posted on the SUBLUXATOR was from a 1970's powerboat ad.

As a volvo dealer and a volvo guy (prefered drive). I would love to have a couple of E drive lowers. I believe from everything I have been able to find, almost nothing is available for these things anymore. High Life had a pair for sale here, just couldn't come up with the cash and they were sold. If I'm not mistaken these could be bolted right up to the SPA drives going in my Maltese.

I inspected those that Mike Spirito , High Life, had. He wanted way to much for what was destroyed set with lots of saltwater corrosion. As a past machinist, an accomplished welder, I walked away. I've been looking for a pair myself.....

Thanks Mario, now I don't feel so bad about missing out on them.

I have quite a few e drives from various sources including Mike Spiritos. There are at least 2 that could be made whole with lots of other parts. I would love to find the right buyer to take everything I have for $4500, but the person would have to come get them. They add lots of extra speed compared to the conventional lower unit on the Volvo Penta drives due to their low profile.
