No

I was a Gas Turbine Tech in the Navy and the number of trouble free hours you can get from these turbines is off the chart. A piston engine built to put out similar HP is prone to come apart at any moment. If you want to put 1500+ power plants in a high performance boat and live to tell about it, turbines would seem to be the safer way to go.

but isn't the fuel consumption double compared to gas,

also the fuel cost of diesel/kerosene/jet fuel compared to gas?

You only have to go a couple miles a hour faster than D Scott......If ya have a bunch of mph in the bank you can win for a lot of years........That thing is awsome...

There are tradeoffs to consider- turbine expense is absolutely of the chart for fuel, transmissions, initial purchase price, dockside manners are terrible as well. You can blow one with an improper startup sequence. But if none of these are a problem you cant go wrong- pistons are archaic in comparison.

Notice airliners using pistons? The hot new planes are the single engine jets for around a million.

Turbine engines really only have one major moving part (trannys a different story) and can run wide open from day one to hot section replacement- if you can afford the fuel.

- but for performance- the only area where pistons have a slight but diminishing advantage is in top fuel and those get rebuilt what once every 5 seconds?
