Couldn't agree more! I had a Thundercraft ski boat and it had very little freeboard too and was a crazy unstable boat, especially in tight turns, so it went on the for sale line!
Went to a deep "V" again.
Those bassboats are nuts! I saw a silver and black metalflake one last weekend with a huge Honda on the back. The thing was as big as a house! It had no numbers on it but I think it had to be at least a 400 or 500 four stroke probably? The damn boat was only 19 feet long! Why the need for so much ower. The fish will wait....................................................

I have a buddy who fishes in a lot of those big dollar tournaments, according to him; the reasoning behind the HUGE motors is the events are generally "timed", in other words, every minute you spend GETTING to your fishing hole, and getting back to the dock at the end of the day is time that is "wasted" by not being able to fish, sounded kindy hard to believe to me, but, I guess when you got a chance to win 60K worth of bass boat and trailer and a brand new pick up to tow it with you are gonna take it pretty serious.

.....................Personally??, I think its just a way to "justify"? to the wifey [or your bank manager] WHY you need a 500HP outboard on the back of your 17 ft bass boat, but, then again, I guess I cant judge other people, since I have NO problem with a pair [or more] of Merc 1075's in a 40 ft V bottom!, LOL, but, like "Stinger" said, its a whole different story when you have a boat with virtually NO freeboard.

I agree the guy in the video isn't too bright where are y'all seeing these 500HP outboards? Biggest that I know of (stock) are 350 HP and most of those are way to heavy to run good on a bass boat. I guess its possible to get that much power from a modified 2-stroke but it wouldn't be reliable enough for tournement bass fishing. Most of those guys are running 225 - 300 hp on 20 - 21' boats. Just trying to keep things realistic here.....

realisticly, 225-300 hp on a 21' bass boat will still do 90+, and I think that in it self is crazy, in a bass boat, unless you KNOW what your doing.

Reminds a little bit of a 22 Velocity I had, I use to run it hard and one day.........i trimmed her out a little too much in choppy conditions trying to get the extra 2-3 mph and spun out.

I got thrown out of my seat and on to the floor.....kill switched worked! It was definetly an eye opener. Lighter boats like Hydrostreams and bass boats are scary. Takes a lot of experience to handle one at speed. Its a skill to get them through the chine walk phase then it smooth sailing....until they try to blow over

Back in the day.... the boat yard I worked at use to run a 16 Hydrostream with over 340 HP with nitrous. 1/4 mile runs race runs competed against jet boats. I think if I remeber correctly the boat weighed 600 lbs wet and would do around 104 in the quarter mile.

They had a picture of the driver lean over the windscreen at speeed to prevent a blow over.....crazyy chitt!

Thats why I like big vee bottoms!!!
