MD against boaters goes another step. Canal Day cancelled.
Now granted they are citing falling revenues but the costs they identify are very similar to the reasons they are pushing for the boat gathering regs. "covering" police costs.
Canal Day cancelled.
"Canal Day has recently come under the scope of the Maryland General Assembly as it considers bills to help Department of Natural Resources Police permit and regulate large marine gatherings such as the annual celebration."
Now granted, we never attended Canal Day but I do support boating events regardless. Wonder if they'll target poker runs next?
Maryland boating legislation initiatives here
Virginia boating legislation initiatives here I'm starting to appreciate living in Va a bit more each summer.

I don't care about Canal Day, but MD is really starting to piss me off in general. They are talking about increasing income taxes for singles over 100K, and joint over 150K. These days 150K for a family is really not that much.
