Re: EMI Exhaust System for 496
the question of warranty.i to had the same question.when i was at the miami boat show i spoke with mercury the gentlemen i spoke with actually several of them got into this dicussion.my first concern was the new cmi headers they stated that the warranty would be voided next was emi thunder because i ran them on my old sonic. mercury stated they were ok because the were a manifold not a header.sounds good to me.even thou i do like the cmi i would not hesitate to use them.they are good looking and your performance will be better how much i don't think any one could tell except you.

Just my two cents. Warranty is always a question of failure and it's cause.
Really the only exhaust causal failure would be water reversion. One would think (HOPE), if an exhaust system fails internally leaking water into the cyl heads (while under exhaust mfg's warr) , that the exhaust manufacturer would stand behind their product and pay toward its repair.
The best bet (with regard to engine mfg's warr) is to stay with OEM parts/systems. One should not expect MerCruiser or Volvo to warr a sytem they didn't design.....I know I wouldn't expect it.

Re: EMI Exhaust System for 496
What Mercury should do is offer the CMI's ( already stock OEM on the 525) as an upgrade option from Mercury....that solve the gray area for the 496's. They could also do the same with the EMI but Mercury already has a relationship with CMI. The both would sell more product and make more money that way. Everyone is leery about the warranty thing with these aftermarket pipes.

Hi, My house is finished at Lake Havasu Az., and I will be there at or about May 20th. If you are looking to try out the Exhaust system, I will be more than willing on my 2001 pantera 24' w/496 HO Mag. Jeff
