Towing Permits for a 3600 Cat...

First trip to the lake ( 20 miles from my garage) right after buying my boat I not only got tickets for not having permit, signs etc.. but they also impounded it. That was on Friday and it sat in an old junk yard with security being a 6 ft chain link fence. I had to wait till Monday to get it out. Now I get permits if I hook up just to move it in my garage, LOL. It's a pain the first time after that it's no big deal.

I have a blanket permit for Virginia. Can tow anywhere in the state as much as needed. $100/year. Only restrictions are after dark and Sundays. I don't get the Sunday restriction for non-commercial vehicles....but it is what it is. So far, Five-0 has left me alone

My buddy Rich brought his 36 Nor-Tech "Two Face" from Michigan down to my house in Maryland a few summers ago to spend a weekend on the Chesapeake and to do a Poker Run.. he had a easy pull coming out on the way home he got pulled over in Ohio for oversize and had not pulled a permit. The cop made him drive it to the Police Station a couple miles down the road and was going to confiscate the boat until he could pull permit and pay his fine...

I've used Mercury Permits when I have hauled my boat and they are very easy to work with... Didn't know that Boat US had a deal with them, might have to check it out next time we head out on the road...
Once you use them they have all of your info and making subsequent trips is a snap and no hassles... I always figure the cost is minimal in case you get stopped or have a problem. No need to give the insurance company to deny a claim for not filing for them...
