No license required, however, if you don't have an auto drivers license and are at least 14 yrs old you need a boating certificate.

This is a great lake to boat on. Lots of experienced performance boaters with some serious boats on this late. Yes, technically, 90 db and 45 MPH, but the latke is 32 miles long and if you stay away from the south village, no one should bother you unless you do stupid things like run through the narrows (a bunch of islands) speeding. That is just not safe and that is what the police worry about. You may get a ticket on the south end over 60MPH when there is very busy boat traffic, but not on the north end. Also, be careful around bolton landing, another busy place to be aware of.
Responsible high perf boat operators have fun on this lake. If you are new to high performance boating, take your boat to the NJ shore or Long Island to learn how to handle your boat...not Lake George.
I have seen triple digits on my boat (120's) many times on this lake and only received one ticket many years ago because i gave a policeman attitude when doing 85mph. My bad....lol the ticket does not go on your driving record so it is a sort of tax...like everything else in this country.
Any questions, just ask

all great advice usually any events on Lake george are in the "off" season before the lake is busy with summer traffic.
The Lake George Donzi Classic Club has two yearly events up there and the Members love it. One is for Donzi Classics only and the other for all Donzi and other boats of thunderboat row.
It is a great place to boat and see. Just follow the rules. If you get tested and pass keep the slip it is a get out of jail free card. Get your lake permit and display as required that goes a long way. If they can't see it they will come closer to check then you're going to get tested.
If you know you are really loud get some slip ins or clamp on mufflers. the water up there is just awesome once you see the bright blue prop wash you'll be hooked . I was
for info on the area and our events visit our website

We do get tested from time to time and sometimes we fail, this one failed without mufflers

The LG Bashing by people who read stories about it on the internet needs to stop.
