Default 17th Annual Lake Winni Donzi Poker Run all boats welcome

The dates have been locked in for this year's Poker Run, set for Saturday June 24th with a start and finish at the NASWA. While this event is Donzi-focused, all boats are welcome. We are expecting to have a donation-based entry fee this year that will be going to a worthwhile charity. We are also hoping to setup a Friday night meet and greet at a location TBD.

We are looking forward to great weather, great boats and great company. Spread the word and stay tuned for new info and updates as they become available.

Default And the Donzi run jumps the shark

With the escort, speeches and radar guns on display, this run has taken its last breath. Sad day on the lake.

That Suks,,,,this run has been taking place for a very long time. Could you explain more ?

Assuming you are talking PoPo's...they seem to be better on Winni last handful of years, however this past week-end (same time as the run) we had 2 Police boats sitting for most of the day in our 2 nearest bays...I didn't bother going out.

The turn out was low, was it due to the weather or were some ppl tipped off that MP was going to be out in force? We were lectured on speed, noise and 150 ft rule before we left. The MP boats leapfrogged from stop to stop and had radar guns out the entire run. They (MP) also were crossing the paths of boaters and I am not sure what that was about but is wasn't the best show of skilled boat maneuvering.

Typically the run is monitored but not handcuffed, we split off early once we saw the radar guns pointed our way. Fun is being sucked out of the lake everyday, this is another example. Live free or comply! I looked forward to this run every year but in my opinion, this run and others that pull permits as they should, are dead.

Sorry to hear but I'm a bit confused.

- Is there a speed limit on the lake?
- Are the police allowed to stop you for no reason like Coast Guard?
- Was anyone doing anything illegal?
- Has this event pissed off someone and they want it cancelled in the future?
- Are bass boaters harrassed in the same manner?

There must be more to the story.

if nobody is doing anything wrong I say F them and go. They have no right to terrorize people. They work for you.

All great questions:

- Is there a speed limit on the lake? Yes, 45 MPH, in the past on this run if you took it to say 60MPH in an open sections, not really and issue.
- Are the police allowed to stop you for no reason like Coast Guard? Yup
- Was anyone doing anything illegal? In the past, people did speed, but it wasn't like 100MPH or anything crazy.
- Has this event pissed off someone and they want it cancelled in the future? Yes, the speed limit activists saw this as a poster child, and they have won.
- Are bass boaters harrassed in the same manner? Not that I know of, the bass boats in the tournaments are often over the limit, running together, also require and event permit and go well within the 150ft law. But they are not escorted or monitored from what i can observe. Nor should they be.

Bottom line is this fun and charitable event (and I assume the others on the lake) are not longer a fun event Legal yes, but to be in an area that you are running near MP and they openly have a radar gun out, its not a position that I will put myself in for fun as holding to 45MPH for extended periods of time is boring :-) .
