Thumbs down DO NOT start your boating season off like this.

Monday last week Betty and I put in at St. Joe for are first ride to check every out before are trip to New Orleans next week and it looks like that isn't going to happen. We headed south for about 10 miles stopped and checked everything out, fired back up and headed back north. Passed the inlet and went up about 5 miles and shut her down for another check. Looked good so we headed for South Haven for dinner. Little over half way there she let loose. I just took me eyes off the gages and everything was perfect except I was hoping for a little more oil temp, I think I heard the lake temp was 40 deg and with the aluminum blocks and coolers I was taking it easy. 4000 rpm and boom. Not a good sound. Pulled in my drive about 10:30 pm and crawled in to bed about 2:30 am with everything unbolted from the motor ready to pull. I was in Grand Rapids after lunch at Dave's shop to pull and see how bad it was. By the time I had the boat covered back up and went in the shop he had the pan off and was checking out the damages. Looks like maybe a hole new bottom end, heads are ok but need to check the valves. Three sleeves need replaced, 2 sleeves should have been replaced from the rebuild before I bought the boat but that had nothing to do with this problem. Not sure if it was just a rod cap failure or lubrication problem to the front of the block. Don't know when she will be back up and running but I need a little time out anyway. Doug

You've got the best attitude ever. Not many would suffer that damage and just say "Well I need a little time out anyway." Sorry it happened to you, and wish you a quick and successful recovery.

Those pictures are ugly. Hope you can get her up and running soon. If not you and Betty are always welcome to ride with us. It might be a slightly rougher ride than you are use to! I'll make sure to make some extra Down Scope!!!
