Northpoint is a lot easier to launch and retrieve. The entire marina is well done! Also, they have plenty of parking and a washdown area. Plus, they have dedicated launch and retrieve ramps, so no hassles with who was there first. Finally, there is a decent place to eat and plenty of free docking for a few hours.
There is construstion going on, but we were there last week and had no issues navigating the detour to get to the ramp.

Mark,
How do you not get busted at 12' for overwidth by the Zion police? I have been told they are brutal for over length and width which is why I launch in Waukegan Harbor. It not a very nice launch like North Point, but nobody hassles me there with a 10'6" wide boat.

I really thought the village was terrible for hassling boaters. They post one little (I mean very little) sign and consider this notice.

Waukeegan is not that bad at all.....just sucks going through Waukeegan to get there....seems like i get stuck at every single light there is before the harbor........when you get there just try and use the far left ramp as its the deepest for launching.....or so we've been told.

If you go to the police station in Winthrop Harbor you can get a 'permit' for a rig that is too long and/or too wide. We had a 40 Hustler and paid ~$100 for the year. You can get a one-time use, limited use (like 3-4 times) or unlimited use... we were unlimited. They give you a receipt and you carry it in the glove box. We never were stopped, but I heard some others getting stopped and getting VERY large tickets. I did not want the hassle, so the cost was worth it for me.
