Nova...for a day on the big pond (Lake Michigan), we usually launch out of East Chicago or Hammond, IN and turn left or right. Turning left gets you to Chicago, where you can raft up in the "Playpen" on the north side of Navy Pier for some drinks and a nice view or you can lock thru to the Chicago River, and grab a bit to eat at Dick's Last Resort or a joint called Flatwater that's a little too nice for our crew. Turning right gets you to a LOT of beach (once you get past the steel mills)...go out to Portage and you'll hit "Boater's Beach," where the discharge water from the local mill keeps it swimable from June-Oct. A bit further, great food and drinks at Michigan City (Matey's, specifically). That's typically what we do. If you decide to roll up, just let us know.

The pic's sold me! We've been talking about it for a couple years and your only six hours away. I put a weekend in the calendar after the first of the year. Whats a good one up there?
