what sort of speed is typical for the 33'

im curious what sort of numbers i have to shoot for with set up , prop sizes, etc.. what gives the most gain?drive spacers,weight changes.im running 540's merlin 3 carb 850's dual feed double pumpers,motors and i still dont know of a baseline to expect, i was told were in the neighborhood of 800 hp each, why do the lowers come with 135 to 1 gears? any input would be appreciated.im not in the power zone of rpm with my current props and i dont need a wall full of props that dont work HELP!

also were in the hell is sending units for fuel tanks located in the boat and are they accesible,i cant seem to locate them and i dont want to tear the cabin all apart on a search and fail mission!

1. What drives do you have.
2. Assuming you have speedmasters, gears are located in the upper part of the drive.
3. 136:1 gears is like shifting to higher gears. Props are only made up to a certain size. A smaller wheel spinning faster puts less load on the drive when wave jumping.
4. Find a reliable prop company that has inventory of props to try before buying. TNT in FL is my recommondation. Keep track of rpm, WOT rpm, slippage, top speed.....
5. Fuel tanks; follow the fuel lines backwards. Call Ocean Express for location. www.oceanexpress.com
6. I would dyno the motors to see if they are running properly. Better to find problems on dyno than during boating season. Alot cheaper to find problem before blowing a hole in the block and heads.

im running the bravos that came with the boat,apparantly these were just slammed on it to sell as i was informed that it had imco's,ross told me to put the h.p. gimbals on and i did, but they have a 1"spacer in between lower unit and housing, in them and i dont know if i need them.
the props i ordered from hydromotive five bladed 29's, with the intent i would be able to try different ones if they werent right, but that was for 30 days from purchase, it actually took me an extras 2 months to get the motors done as i had all kinds of bracket and pully problems, so hydromotive tells me warrantee over!
i asked ross about the tanks and he didnt know

Oh well, props are yours.
Leave the spacers for now. It will help you get on plane faster and may slow top end.

Ross not knowing about 33's tanks is sad.

yesterday we pulled the motors and drives{3rd time} damn oil pan leak gremlins,, changing the gear ratio to 1:50 from 1:36
this should pick up rpm around 800, i was only getting 5150, these motors make peak power at 5900, hopefully this will get them to their happy zone and be bumping on the rev limiter, 6000, then maybe i can use the soft touch!

Your charts show peak hp at 5900 rpms. What kind of long blocks are you going to turn that many RPMS?
