OSS, like most other sanctioning bodies, is dedicated to making races happen. OSS is happy about any successful boat race by any race organization. OSS has never attempted and will never attempt to prevent any other boat race organized by any other race organization from happening.
Apparently, there are people who do not share the same view. From day one, OSS has been the target of attempts to prevent its races from happening, and to deny its racers the chance to compete at an OSS event. From the water depth brawl in Biloxi to the Manatee wars in St. Pete and other more recent attempts: There seem to be people who are so intent on destroying OSS (good luck on that) that they don’t see that their activities can destroy the whole offshore racing sport. Also due to these activities, it has become more complicated and more costly for any race organization to organize any offshore boat race.
As a not for profit organization dedicated to the development and growth of offshore powerboat racing, OSS will actively resist these attempts – by any means available.
Over the last few days, OSS has received information that indicate that there might be attempts to tamper with two of its upcoming races, namely Orange Beach and Las Vegas. To stop these attempts in its tracks before they turn into a train wreck, please note:
1. As for Orange Beach, OSS holds a signed permit by the US Coast Guard. This permit is a matter of public record and available at
http://www.offshoresuperseries.com/d...SignedCopy.pdf for viewing.
2. As for Las Vegas, the Coast Guard defers permitting authority to the National Park Service when an event is held in a National Park. Therefore, there is no and will be no Coast Guard Permit for Las Vegas. A permit for Las Vegas has been obtained from the National Park Service.
If there are any questions regarding the legality of an OSS race, please direct them to OSS. OSS will answer these questions in the appropriate manner.
