Re: Motley Crew Damage Photos
The real discussion should be about how to achieve some level of parity in the safest, fairest way.
Slow down the leaders, making thier hard work meaningless or helping the slower boats to catch up to the front of the pack by lowering weight, raising drives or just helping them learn how to set up the boat properly.
It doesn't seem right to penalize greatness.
In NASCAR, they don't single out one team with restrictions, do it to everyone running that particular body.

Parity has no place in racing. Have a foot race. Sorry Ron.
The problem with the 400 lbs is that the boat starts the turn and pivots on the front of the sponson. If you place the weight at the cg it will be increasing the pendulum effect as it is turning. Polar moment of the boat has changed making the rear more agressive. The pivot center is at least 15 ft from the cg. Too many changes to the boat have to be made to compensate for the increase in mass.
If the weight was added in fuel it will raise the vertical position of the cg.
Charlie and Forest did a spin like that a in 98.
Good to see that they came out of this ok.

Is The Reason We Hooked And Not A Broken Drive. The Addl Weight (9200 Lbs Total) Planted The Front Sponson And Spun The Boat Violently. We Have Controlled Slid This Boat Over 1200 Turns To Date With No Problem And 3 Turns Into Practice With 400 Lbs For The First Time........whats The Odds?? It Took The Handling Out Of The Boat And Its Not The Same By Any Means. We Could Have Repaired The Boat And Raced On Sunday But Were At Odds With The Politics (which I Will Not Post) And The "class" In General So We Decided To Pack It Up And Roll. If Anyone Had A Better View Of The Incident Than Us, I Would Like To Hear Their Take

Was all that done on these same drives?
Maybe the fatigue finally gave in?
It takes some pretty large forces to snap off a Merc 6 skeg, or 2...and it has been happening a lot more often...
These aren't Formula 1, Hydroplanes, or Champs Boats we are dealing with here.....but yet the racers are having to drive them as such...
I think the associations need to start looking into wider turns instead of these hair pins if and when it is possible for each site... Just a suggestion......
I hope the Motley Crew doesn't quit.
The fans enjoy the show with you guys in it!

Re: Motley Crew Damage Photos
personally i do not believe that motley crew should be weight penalized or any other team that is dominating for that matter. it is the job of the officials to tech each team and if legal so be it. if tech wants to help the slower teams, that is a different can to open. i know that this is being discussed alot and that the owners and parity committee will vote on this, but i wanted to lend my support to the crew and to any team that is winning, they are doing their homework---as long as they are deemed legal by tech. nascar only has three makes so far to police and our sport has so many variations it must be a nightmare to try and acheive parity. i do believe that OSS will get there but extra weight to a team is not right in my opinion. just my 2 cents worth. thank you
