Mercury Racing announces 2006 OSS National High Points Contingency Purse Winners

FOND DU LAC, Wis. Oct. 19, 2006 – Mercury Racing is pleased to announce winners of the $75,000 Offshore Super Series (OSS) National High Points contingency prize purse for the 2006 racing season. The purse is to reward racers who use Mercury Racing-approved outboards and sterndrives in OSS National Series events in OSS Cat Lite, OSS Vee, OSS Vee Lite and OSS Cat Outboard class competition. OSS Cat class competitors using Mercury Racing-approved OSS Cat engine packages were rewarded a separate Mercury Racing Winners Circle promotional credit program. Mercury Racing supported the contingency programs by providing onsite support at all 2006 OSS race events, with the legendary Mercury Racing offshore product support truck and staff.


OSS National Series Total High Points

(Retail Value – Promotional Credit)



OSS Cat Lite:

1st Place –Hooter’s Hotel & Casino/Page Racing - $12,000
2nd Place – Popeye’s Famous Chicken/Stan Ware Racing - $6,000
3rd Place – Reliable Carriers/GT Motorsports - $4,000
4th Place – Professional Marine Racing/Phoenix Sales & Service - $2,000
5th Place – Speed Racer/Randy Kent - $1,000



OSS Vee:

1st Place – Miccosukee Indian Gaming/Fever Racing -$12,000
2nd Place - Fury/Ray Delaney - $6,000
3rd Place – Black Pearl/Black Pearl Racing - $4,000
4th Place – Love Muscle/David Branch - $2,000
5th Place – Bad Boy Powerboats/God Speed - $1,000



OSS Vee Lite:

1st Place – Screamin’ Eagle/Allen Campbell - $6,000
2nd Place – Wild Ride/Larry Kostelac - $3,000
3rd Place – None - $2,000
4th Place – Laveycraft/Kevin Cooper - $1,000
5th Place – Typhoon/Randy Schleuss - $500



OSS Cat Outboard:

1st Place – Mojo/Mojo Racing - $6,000
2nd Place – Mapei/GB Racing - $3,000
3rd Place – Medalla Light/Airspeed Racing - $2,000
4th Place – Bermuda Berrycuda/Chris Marshall - $1,000
5th Place – DoubleEdge Motorsports - $500



The $150,000 OSS contingency purse consists of a $75,000 contingency for OSS National Series title winners and $75,000 contingency for individual OSS National Series race event and World Championship winners.

The $75,000 purse for OSS National Series title winners is distributed to the top five places in OSS Cat Lite, OSS Vee, OSS Vee Lite and OSS Cat Outboard classes, based on the total points each race boat accumulates in the OSS National Series during the 2006 race season.

The $75,000 purse for the winners at each individual OSS National Series event were distributed to OSS Cat Lite, OSS Vee, OSS Vee Lite and OSS Cat Outboard class competition. Each first place class winner using Mercury Racing-approved HP525 EFI engines and OSS class-approved sterndrives or Mercury Racing 2.5 EFI Offshore Race outboards in the OSS National Series for the 2006 racing season, was awarded a retail value promotional credit per event. The overall World Championship title winners in these classes are also being awarded a retail value promotional credit.

Mercury actually saved $2000 by IMCO running a VORTEC. That $2000 should be still paid out, split up between the other 4 boats in SVL. $500 a piece. Just my opinion.

In addition to this contingency package, it has been a great benefit to many of us to have the Mercury truck and Mercury Racing personal at the race sites.

the amount of mecury gear i would asssume.... 2 engines versus 1 (or outboards versus sterndrive setup)
