Cool and fast: Sunday's OSS race decides World Championship
Unofficial Results Available Here
The Sunday race of the Merrick World Cup Classic - the United Worlds of OSS, OPA, and POPRA – couldn’t have had better conditions: Sunny, nippy, a slight ripple on the water.
The first race at 11am had the OSSC Cats, the OSSCX Cat Extremes, and the OSSTX Turbine Extreme boats in the water. In OSSC, JD Byrider and CMS remained at the docks and did not race, reasons unknown.
In OSSCX, Bud select was first when the course went green, and developed a 15 second lead over CRC. After passing Warpaint narrowly, Bud Select slowed down with technical problems, was out of the race and gave the lead to CRC. CRC received the checkered flag in OSSCX, and, contingent on tech inspections, they will be the OSSCX World Champion.
The AMF Turbine boat Ms. Geico was the unopposed winner in OSSTX. Also contingent on tech inspections, Ms. Geico will be the OSSTX World Champion.
In OSSC, Reliable took the early lead, but Nichols jumped them and pulled far, far away from Reliable and WHM. Reliable tried to catch up with Nichols. Finally, Reliable pulled ahead of Nichols, Todd Werner in the Nichols boat regained the lead within seconds, but Reliable finally pulled away from them. Reliable received the checkered flag, Nichols came in second, WHM third. Nonetheless, contingent on tech inspections, Nichols will be the OSSCX World Champion.
Team Cintron checked out early with technical problems.
The second race had the OSSCO Cat Outboards and the OSSVL Vee Lites in the glorious waters of Destin, Florida.
In OSSCO, there was deck to deck racing right out of the gate. Then it was Mojo, Mapei and Hogs Breath, all side by side. The finish was Mojo first, Mapei second, and Hog’s Breath third. Pending tech inspections, Mapei will be the World Champion in OSSVL.
In OSSVL, last year’s World Champion Screamin’ Eagle led from start to finish, with Team Typhoon hot on their heels. But however hard Typhoon may have tried, Screamin’ Eagle was unassailable. The battle for third was between the Kostelacs in Wild Ride and Team IMCO. Wild Ride pulled away from IMCO, coming in third. Last year’s World Champion Screamin’ Eagle received the checkered flag. However, pending tech inspections, Wild Ride will be the World Champion in OSSVL.
The last race had the OSSCL Cat Lites and the OSSV two engine vee bottoms.
In OSSCL, the boats delighted the fans with deck on deck racing out of the gate. Then Speed Racer pulled away, Professional Marine and Popeye’s in the hunt. Reliable replaced Popeye’s in 3rd. Motley Crew disappointed in the beginning. After a few laps, they challenged Reliable for 3rd, passed them and then set their sights on Professional Marine. Speed Racer took the checkered flag, and pending inspections, the World Championship in OSSCL. Motley Crew took second, Reliable third. The Speed Racer boat was subsequently slapped with a 1 minute penalty, which put the boat in second place of the Sunday race, but which did not change the outcome of the Championships.
In OSSV, the Bad Boy/Godspeed boat with the Krazy Kubans led strong, with Miccosukee and Fury after them. Then Bad Boy/Godspeed broke again, maintaining their unbroken record for breaking all boats in the 2006 and the 2007 seasons, leaving the race to Miccosukee and Fury. The first and second boats on Thursday also dueled on Sunday, with Miccosukee leading and with Fury off the pace. Miccosukee in the new Outerlimits took the checkered flag, with Fury so way behind that they lapped them. Pending inspections, the World Champions in OSSV are Brett Furshman and Joe Sgro in Miccosukee Indian Gaming. Fury was second, Bad Boy/Godspeed third.
All results preliminary, pending decisions by judges and tech inspectors.
The awards party on Sunday night, also a joint affair of OPA, POPRA, and OSS filled AJ's to capacity. A great time was had by all.

Re: Cool and fast: Sunday's OSS race decides World Championship
I have a question because I was not there and I dont want to speculate so could someone that knows what happened please inform us what transpired to make the JD Byrider boat and CMS not race especially since JD ran all season with no problems and no one raised any issues with the boat.
