Bob:

I can't help but think after we spoke about ORL your wheels started turning , good luck this year! It would be great if we had 10 boats and you did too at the same event!

There's your problem in a nutshell.....

All a real racer wants on any given day is a chance to race on an even playing field, with as much competition as possible, so if he wins, he actually accomplished something special.

A showoff wants to win every event............. at any cost and regardless of how few boats.....or he'll pick up his football and go home.

I submit that the sport needs to make clear distinctions between the two...... and if you are going to have separate organizations than split them up based on the above.

2) How do you get people interested in competing in a class that may only have a handful of "usual suspects" or winners?

In 2006 SVL winners : Screamin Eagle
Wild Ride
LaveyCraft/AMF
IMCO

4 different type hulls, with up to 10 boats racing in the class!
If there is such a thing as entry level in the Pro-series, this is it.
One motor should last all season with just oil changes, and the Mercury truck and crew are there each race to help you out if you need it.

This is a great class with good competition, Easy to explain to the first time viewer! They normally run with the Cat OB's another great class. and AGAIN easy for the Spectators to understand, as are all the races run under the OSS Banner. Each class is started individually, which in turn lets spectators know who is leading!! Its pretty simple!

LETS DO IT, AND GET IT TOGETHER
Mike,

Back in the "D" class days we had every rule combination known to man. Turbo's, Blowers, EFI, etc. WE were all building our stuff ourselves and testing on the race course. Cat and "V's" together was fun too. I agree we can get back to that as long as we don't fall into the BLACK hole. Innovation is what makes racing fun for us. It a hobby for most. I'd be willing to help with the is effort in any way I can.

The 1st Offshore boat I raced was a D-Class boat.

Won the Hi-Points Championship with her too!
