To put the devastation in perspective, the debris of the World Trade Center was estimated at less than half. The effects of the storm had forced the city of Biloxi to skip the race in 2006.

Biloxi rebounded. The city insisted on having the first OSS race of the season - as usual. Which created another obstacle: Many OSS teams from the North-East literally had to dig their boats out from under feet of snow before they could truck their boats down South for the March 25th race.
