POPRA & OSS Join Forces to Open the Door to P Class Racing in 2007

POPRA & OSS Join Forces to Open the Door to P Class Racing in 2007

BILOXI, MS – Delegates of Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) and Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association (OSS) met last Tuesday and worked out details to join efforts to bring the best of P class racing to the remaining 2007 OSS schedule.

Through this partnership, a quality program and a strong prize purse has been secured for all P classes at the race sites in Orange Beach, Alabama and at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

“We are excited to partner with POPRA and John Haggin,” said OSS Executive Director, Misty Velásquez. “POPRA is an organization that has always prioritized quality and safety.”

OSS treasurer, Stan Ware said,” Haggin has always been a strong supporter of OSS and offshore racing. His participation has really aided in trying to unite these groups.”

Any offshore race team that meets the specifications of either organization is welcome to take part in this joint venture. For those interested, more information can be found at www.pacificoffshore.com or at www.offshoresuperseries.com.

This is not the first time for the two organizations to partner. OSS and POPRA found great success is 2006 when they worked together to produce the Nationals in Las Vegas.

P class racing will be made possible by the support of OSS, POPRA, Dave Scott, John Haggin, Stan Ware, and Steve Page.

WOW - this really flies in the face of the OSS Business model as I understood it.

I like it though - I think it is progress in the right direction.

To Greg: You never understood the OSS business model. Being a not-for-profit, OSS doesn't have much of a "business" model anyway.

The only business model you ever understood was how to make money off poor people who can't afford to pay their mortgages. Understandably, yu are more at home with likeminded ambulance chasers. You want to stay where you are.

To all others: OSS & POPRA do the same what OSS & POPRA did in Vegas, what OSS & OPA & POPRA did in Destin, and what OSS & OPA did in St. Clair: Same racesite, same venue, different rules, different sanctioning bodies. Share the cost, double the fun.

OSS will always be a closed lid organization. Lid and case closed.

Betel: good to hear from you. Incredible that you are still unable to focus on the issues and instead revert to personal attacks, but so be it. Perhaps the OSS board will have to get out that muzzel again... history tends to repeat itself, and there is nothing new under the sun here.

As for what I do or don't understand - well, I understand models that work, and models that fail. I have no issue with the OSS modifying/abandoning their original "cast in stone" business model - "only 4 classes, only "professional" racers, "never cancel a race".. yada yada... Bottom line - but let's call it what it is - they are morphing into what it takes to continue racing, and since they could not find a way to hang on to the "Big, fast Boats" that supposedly everyone comes to see -(who are now racing on thier own), they need to do something to fill up the roster. They took a lesson from John Carbonel - imagine that.

Denying the obvious does not reinforce credibility - but then again, I guess you don't worry about destroying what you don't have in the first place.

I would like to see these personal attacks ended. as a business owner, we must always review and adapt to changing times. we believe that this is best for the sport. boat counts are down everywhere. if we don't unify, we all will pay. b, please remove your post.
take the high road.
we are moving forward

scratching the surface!
Think it is great, it has work with opa/oss running together and can be the same for this.

Another note what does attacking a persons point of profession have to do with the joining of two bodies. Thats what a PM is for and lets keep the positive threads positive.

I completly agree - I think it is great as well, that is why I wrote "I think it is progress in the right direction"..

I defended the attack, which was made in public - by responding in public. I was not the criminal, I was the victim.

Once again, I think it is a great idea that will increase boat count, whcih is critical to survival and a better "show". Who knows, if this had been done earlier by OSS Maybe OPA would have thrown in with them or some other form of consolidation may have occured.
