I was real skeptical...............
I was real skeptical about this event being held on this lake. I'll tell you why. As a resident and frequent observer of local boating habits I really expected to hear of some sort of tragedy related to an incursion in the course. But after today, seeing the overall design of the course and the appearant ability of the officials to keep non-participants off of the circuit I must say I was pleased. Of course the rain probably kept alot of the possible problems on shore.
After the tragedy at the Poker Run last year I thought that any real event would be destined to fail here. In my opinion this event appeared to be properly organized and the vendor placement seemingly well thought out given the limited space. I did not get any opinion from any of the participants about the launch and pit area, but both also appeared to be organized well with sufficient (certainly not plentiful) room to negotiate the larger boat & trailer combos.
The lake on this end was definitely in better condition than the north end, and the rain gave us a slight break for at least a few classes to get out and run. I hope tomarro's weather holds out so the scheduled classes can run and the event can claim to be a success.
I as a future sponsor would really like to see this event bumped into a regular season event and advertised accordingly. I believe this event could really be a popular attraction once a year and certainly be even better next year.
I hope we can do this again next year and make it even better.
