Re: Water pump issues!!!

I have installed the impellers with WD-40 spray. Why is soap better? The sea strainer is clear but doesn't have a pop off pressure top. At speed the boat bury's the water pressure guage.
Thanks for all the ideas to check on!

Wil,
According to OSS rules, on Pg. 18 in the Tech Rules, it does state: "no engine modifications are allowed"... etc. And the paragraph above references the cooling system too.
Here is the link: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=76

Hope that helps.

Re: Water pump issues!!!

Those 1 piece housings suck. They use the plastic housing for an end plate instead of a stainless plate. Thats were it burns/wears, after a while the impeller takes a sh$t. Have done 6 or 7 Fountain Lightnings w/ 500/525 efis. All have not had impeller failures any more (unless started dry or tons of hours).

Re: Water pump issues!!!

team ettore had the same problem last year.we fried 4 impellers in 2 races.what we did was made sure there was no debris from the nose cone to the pump.you have to clear this out we found rubber chunks in the line and was affecting pick up.we also had the inside of the hose come apart and created somewhat of a check valve and was letting very little if any water through.flush line both ways in n out to clear debris. ettore 75 2003 super v world champions

Re: Water pump issues!!!

crichdsn has good points I have seen those same problems( on other boat) the only other thing is runnning dry ie sucking air somewhere, kinked hose etc, don't get hung up on rotation if you did bend the vanes over the wrong way as soon as you turned the engine over they would flop over the correct way ( when they are new they don't have a set) any problem with installation would be apperant at sart up ifyou don't have water spitting out the dump there is a problem. Ours has 5 lbs at idle and I had to put a huge pop off dump to keep on the gauge at speed . if while running you are showning anything over 15 lbs at speed its not the hose kinking so I would look for an air leak somewhere if you have a pop off valve on your sea strainer look there I had a one way valve leak on ours when we ran the cat and we would run fine all day then come back in the no wake and cook a impeller at idle
oh by the way I was just having fun on the three word post and got carried away no offence intended Larry
