Water pump issues!!!
Went out today and tested for 10 min. and smoked another water pump. Has anyone had any problems with water pump failers on 525. motors? This could be my fault on the insalation with the wrong rotation but we went through 3-4 impellers in 2 years. Trophy ***** says he swears he did it by the book!!!

Re: Water pump issues!!!
Check the hose in the transom assembly. I have seen them pushed up by water pinching it between the bellows and bell housing. I have also seen them pulled out of the "groove" around the bellows area on the main housing. If the hose bends or pinches out of round with the engine running fast, it can suck the hose shut and won't pop back until the engine is shut off, causing quick impeller failure. These events happen more often with stand-off boxes.

Re: Water pump issues!!!
does the sea strainer have a relief valve in the top? is the top of the strainer clear? I would watch the strainer for a lot of air bubbles , it might not be a restriction but an air leak. temporarily replace the drain plug on the sea strainer with a barbed nipple and connect a pressure / vacuum gage to find out what is going on in the system before the pump.
one other thing is do not use grease to install the impeller use liquid dish soap.just some stuff to look at.

Candy,
It really seems to me, that it is DEFINITELY the throttleman's problem... I am sure in some way, or some how, you are doing something wrong... It's got to be you.

Re: Water pump issues!!!
Try switching the the Bulldog style seawater pump. Its like the old style w/ wear plates on both sides of the impeller. Part# 46-72774a89 body/impeller kit, rear cover 87631a4, wear plate 94916, wear plate 94576. I switch all 1 piece style pumps to this version and they take alot of abuse.
