Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats stole the show at the New York City Powerboat Poker Run, with 6 boats running in front of the impressive pack of speedboats. Leading the way was Oliver Bock in his 47’ Outerlimits, ‘Big Soldier’. Over 110 boats, from all over the country and Canada, participated in this prestigious and spectacular event held on the Hudson River in America’s most exciting city.
Right from the start, the Outerlimits dock drew quite a crowd with their impressive fleet of boats. Mike Fiore, president of Outerlimits, said, “It’s great to see everyone out here having such a good time.” Surrounded by all the Outerlimits boats, he continued “This almost looks like an Outerlimits party.” And indeed it did. The day turned out to be quite a show for these v-bottoms.
The event started with the Patriotic Powerboat Parade with Marc Jameson in his Outerlimits 39’ Quattro ‘What-a-Ride’ as the official pace boat. Oliver Bock, in his 47’ Outerlimits GTX ‘Big Soldier’ powered by Sterling motors, was the fastest boat of the pack, beating out not only the other v-bottoms but all the cats too. He reached the George Washington Bridge first followed by Mike Fiore and Bob Russell in the “Lake Cumberland Marine” 42 Outerlimits GTX, powered by stock Mercury 1075s. And just like Bock, Fiore and Russell stayed ahead of every other v-bottom and cat out there. Other Outerlimits in the top 10 were Jim Wiley’s “XXX” a 47’ GTX, John O’Loughlin’s “All Fired Up”, a 42’ GTX, “Jus Trucking”, Scott Applegate’s 42’ GTX, and “Keep Diggin”, a 42 LegacyOuterlimits owned by Mark Kosik. With the waters being a bit rough, it was Outerlimits v-bottom performance all the way. And Oliver Bock, who was the first v-bottom to reach the bridge, last year, won the ‘King of the Hudson’ award as the fastest boat overall this year. Quite an accomplishment.
The National Powerboat Association produces the New York City Powerboat Poker Run, which celebrated its 9th year. The course started at Liberty Landing Marina, in the shadow of the Stature of Liberty on to the Tappan Zee Bridge then to the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club, then on to Haverstraw Marina, and returned to the Liberty Landing Marina for the big Awards Party. A great day was had by all.
