Mercury Powers Australian Triumph

Mercury Powers Australian Triumph
At World Water Ski Racing Championships

FOND DU LAC, Wis., May 30, 2007 – It was one of the most exciting ski race events in history, and Mercury Marine played a key role in helping Australia dominate the 2007 World Water Ski Racing Championships May 10-19 in Rotorua, New Zealand. Australian skiers won five of the six world titles on offer, and four of them were powered by Mercury engines.

By claiming her fourth F1 Women’s world champhionship, Ann Procter became the most accomplished ski racer ever - while Jason Walmsley claimed the F1 Men’s crown in a thriller. Both champions were pulled to victory by the Merc Force, a 21-foot Force boat powered by a Mercury Racing 1075 SCi sterndrive.

In the F2 competition, Australians Chris Stout and Tania Teelow took the honors, with both powered across the line by Mercury OptiMax 300XS outboards.“Without doubt the world championships are the ultimate test, and these results are another feather in the cap for Mercury Racing,” said Guy Williamson, Mercury Racing Sales Manager – Australia & New Zealand. “To claim the top four titles at the ski racing’s greatest event is very special and confirms Mercury is head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to performance and race reliability,” Williamson said.

The fifth Australian world champion was Trudi Stout (sister of Chris, above) who claimed the Junior Girls title. With a further five Australians - Lauryn Eagle, Daniel Campbell, Luke Keys, Rory Brien and Emma Carson - recording podium finishes, it’s no surprise Australia also won the Country Trophy with the most points accumulated over the week.
