OUTERLIMITS POWERBOATS AND OSG TEAM UP FOR POWERBOAT P1 2008

Outerlimits Powerboats and OSG Racing Team are pleased to announce that the Italian OSG team will campaign a factory-supported Outerlimits Powerboat in Powerboat P1’s 2008 series.

“We are proud, that based on the performance of our boat in this year’s European introduction, OSG, one of the most successful and well-known teams in Powerboat P1, has selected Outerlimits. We have felt a bond with OSG since we first came to the circuit and were welcomed by Giancarlo as a competitor, and also as a friend,” says Mike Fiore, owner and president of Outerlimits Powerboats.

The Bristol, Rhode Island-based company has been building recreational, high performance boats for 14 years, based on the rich history of powerboat building, started by Mike’s father, Paul, vice president of the company, who acted as team manager in this year’s race series. Though pleasure boating is the focus in the States, the company had raced its way to a variety of U.S. National and World Championships in the U.I.M. sanctioned APBA and SBI racing circuits. Outerlimits came to Powerboat P1 to test its mettle against international competitors and to introduce the brand to the European market.

“We were very impressed at first, by the appearance of the Outerlimits Powerboat,” says Giancarlo Cangiano, “But when we saw it perform in the rough water in Malta—as well as the calmer waters of other race courses--we were amazed at the boat’s strength, handling and speed. The water in Zeebrugge was real P1 water—rough and unpredictable. The boat’s dominance there was the convincing factor. We knew we wanted to race an Outerlimits.”

Though the team will not disclose what model or power package it will race next year, the partnership will make Cangiano the representative for Outerlimits Powerboats in Italy. “We will be the mobile ambassador for Outerlimits across Europe!” says Cangiano, “We will keep it in the family—the Italians and the Italian-Americans, working together to spread the news of this powerboat’s success!”

Cangiano is the 2006 Powerboat P1 Evolution Class World Champion and will look to reclaim that title in 2008. He has raced in P1 since the circuit’s inception four years ago and brings both racing expertise and a true love of the sea from his native Naples. In 46 Powerboat P1 races, Cangiano has taken the podium 41 times and was also named Throttleman of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He will race the Outerlimits with Giovani Carpitella who joined Cangiano in the 2007 campaign. Other promotional plans for the alliance are being discussed.

“With the factory support of Outerlimits, we know OSG will be a force in 2008!” says Cangiano, “We will be good ‘compares!’”
