Team Amsoil Offshore #77 Dominates At Loto Winning The Oss National Championship

Three weeks after winning the GEICO Triple Crown Series in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Team AMSOIL traveled to Lake of the Ozarks, MO to compete in the Horny Toad Offshore Super Series (OSS) National Championships. The OSS National Championship race was the final event in the OSS season and double points were awarded. Team AMSOIL needed to win the race, or place ahead of Team Peppers to secure the National Title in a very close points race in the OSS Cat Lite Class.

Thousands of spectators lined the shores of this highly publicized and anticipated annual event based out of the spectacular Horny Toad Club and Resort and Yacht Club at Toad Cove complex. Thousands of boats also lined the perimeter of the entire race course. A day long live broadcast was aired by the local Classic Hit Radio FM station which was also linked to a web cast on the internet. The event was also televised on regional cable stations with ongoing live coverage and interviews.

Bob Teague and Paul Whittier took every opportunity to test different set ups, propellers, and boat balance on the race course during two test sessions on Saturday. Ultimately, 196 miles of testing was logged on Saturday resulting in improving lap times by nearly 10 seconds on the 4.8-mile, eight buoy, multi-turn course. At the end of the day, the AMSOIL crew was confident that they had the quickest lap times. Bob and Paul establish a series of speed bench marks at key points on the course so that their optimum performance could be gauged during the race.

The Cat Lite class raced as a part of the final premier event of the day which also included the Cat 850 class boats. Team AMSOIL was positioned in lane two at the start, with Popeye’s on the inside lane and Peppers in lane three. When the green flag dropped, Team AMSOIL accelerated ahead of Popeye’s to gain a slight advantage going into turn one. From an outside lane, Team Propstop came in tight forcing Team AMSOIL to hold a tight line on the exit buoy. From that point, Team AMSOIL started stretching out a commanding lead until a full course caution was enacted due to an accident by the RonRipple.com boat. Two laps were run with the pace boat leading at reduced speeds under the yellow flag condition. This resulted in the race fleet becoming bunched up again. When the green flag dropped for the restart, Team AMSOIL was able to accelerate ahead of the entire fleet and never looked back, steadily increasing the lead over the rest of the Cat Lite boats for the remainder of the 85-mile race.

Team AMSOIL earned 200 points for the win which was enough to secure the OSS National High Points Championship for 2008. Team AMSOIL also accumulated more points than any other team in any class during the 2008 OSS season.

Team AMSOIL is now busy preparing the boat to compete in the three race World Championships held in Key West during the first week of November.

The AMSOIL Offshore Race Team continues to have great results with the new 15W50 Dominator Racing engine oil and the array of AMSOIL lubricants used in every component and system in the race boat. The team thanks AMSOIL for its great sponsorship package and attributes its racing success to the superior lubricants it offers. Thanks also go to AMF Offshore Racing for race support and their efforts to further the entire sport of offshore powerboat racing.
