AMF Offshore Racing, LLC

At the tender age of six (6), John B. A. Haggin, Jr. accompanied his father to an offshore boat race in Miami, Florida. Young John was immediately hooked and his passion for boat racing has now spanned a thirty five year racing career.

After spending countless years around piston engines, Haggin began researching turbines. Once he was convinced that turbine engines could be reliable and economical he created America Moving Forward Offshore Racing, LLC (“AMF”) and installed turbine engines in his 51 foot Outerlimit Sport Yacht. In 2006 John Haggin, Jr. set the World Speed Record for a sporting yacht at 126.13 mph, a record that still stands today.

After the success of his turbine sport yacht, Haggin turned his focus to serious offshore racing. Haggin purchased a 40 foot Race Platinum catamaran and installed T-53 L-13 turbine racing engines and hired Scotty Begovich as his throttleman and Marc Granet as his driver. AMF spent the entire 2006 racing season trying to find the right setup. There were definite highs and lows but everything came together and AMF won its first World Title in 2006 in Key West, Florida.

Ever the businessman, Haggin began an intensive search for a primary sponsor to help alleviate the cost of offshore racing at the elite level. GEICO became the primary sponsor of AMF in 2007 and Haggin proceeded full throttle with his Miss GEICO neon green racing boat. Haggin then purchased a 44 foot MTI catamaran and installed T-53 703 turbine racing engines thereby adding over 800 additional horsepower. In addition he further began creating state-of-the-art safety features to better protect his racing team. These safety features have now been implemented by the entire racing community.

At the World Championships in 2007, Miss GEICO won its second consecutive World Title. In 2008 Miss GEICO continued its winning tradition by defeating a competitive turbine class and claiming its third consecutive World Title.

In 2009 AMF unveiled its latest offshore racing catamaran, a 50 foot Mystic, that should become the world’s fastest offshore racing boat. In addition, AMF has partnered with world renowned Cigarette Powerboats to create a Caveman Cigarette boat to be used as the official pace boat at the races and for GEICO VIP events.

In addition to racing, AMF also participates with GEICO in attending twelve national boat shows where visitors can get an up close and in depth look at the World Champion Miss GEICO racing boats and its turbine engines.
Haggin is also proud of the recent 501 (c) (3) status of his foundation, “United We Race”, in which 100% of the tax deductible proceeds will go to United States Veterans.

Haggin will be driving his Caveman Cigarette pace boat and witnessing Miss GEICO defend its World Title in Key West, Florida this November all while raising money for United States Veterans.
