Purse Question for 2009 (New Thread turning Right)
Maybe if we take the purse from 25k and lower it to 20k paying the top 8 boats in each class than take 5K from each round than divide it up and pay to the top 3 teams in each class as a year end award?
** If there are only 5 teams in a class the extra 300 gets rolled into the year end awards $$
1st (1000) 2nd (800) 3rd (600) 4th (400) 5th (200) 6th (100) 7th (100) 8th (100)
Class 6
Class 5
Class 4
Class 3
Class 2
Class 1
Year end Award to top 3 in each class: **
1st (3400.00) 2nd (2200.00) 3rd (1000.00)

no big deal to me, was just curious when you listed just the bracket classes.

You are right Rick!!! That would reward the teams that raced more races. Sounds good.

It could work. Another thing, would be to try to get some contingency $ for the Top 3 at end of the year. Even small stuff, AMSOIL certificate, Mercury, Host Hotel Rooms just some ideas. I feel OPA is under appreciated by the powerboat industry, we are the largest organization, period! We don't get any support from anyone in the industry. No Merc Truck, no Hering Truck, No Lucas Oil, No AMSOIL, No Teague, No CP Performance, No Speedwear and the list goes on. Many poker runs have less boats than an OPA event and these companies are lining up for them.
Thank god for Geico and the other better funded teams that help keep us going.

Dean you are Kidding right. OPA teams use very little product from those sponsors you mentioned. Mercury bring a truck? Maybe the 750 teams could call and ask Merc.

Dean....I agree we need sum type of sponsor support....but I may have something coming.....I think it is time that we get some kind of backing on some of our equipment....I think my engine package will be a big test for 09....and can open the door on a lot of things for the racers....
OPA is big enough that a program like this would work.....compitition is great in every type of bussiness.....it won't be overnight....but if people are discussing options and are showing interested in this economy.....that is a very good sign....

As an organization, OPA has leverage. We spend a lot of money as a group and "perform" on a relatively large stage. We should promote that. I would bet that most of our events have greater fan exposurer than the vast majority of poker runs.
And Randy what benefits the OPA will also benefit you and all of offshore.
