Helmets/Batteries/Rules
It says in the 2011 rules that helmets must be newer than 10 years old. If they get sent back to the manufacturer, can they be recertified?
Will Optima batteries be required in 2012?
What is race frequency? I have a Racing Communications radio/intercom, but want to make certain that I have the right channel.
Same GPS for 2012?
Is the dunk test available at every race or does it need to be lined up ahead of time?
$1000 for the boat plus $150 for anybody in the pits. Are there any other charges from OPA?
How does the "gas money" work? Many of you look at Lake of the Ozarks as a long haul, but being from here makes them all a pretty long haul.
Does OPA typically get a hotel rate? We pull with a Suburban.
Still trying to figure things out (along with finding a couple of more sponsors), but the boat will absolutely be ready to race and meet all of the criteria if we decide to pull the trigger.
You all are probably getting tired of my questions, but I am just trying to understand things as well as possible.

I would suggest replacement of any and all helmets after about 5 years.
Impact protection comes from the outer shell, the styrene inner shell, and the comfort lining. The styrene inner liner crushes as it absorbs energy. The comfort liner compresses until it bottoms out against the styrene. Glues, resins and other materials used in helmet production can affect liner materials, and general liner deterioration and helmet degradation can result from hair oils, body fluids, cosmetics, and normal "wear and tear."
From past experience there will probably be a noticeable improvement in the protective characteristic of helmets over a five year period due to advances in materials, design and the standards. Therefore, regardless of wear, you will probably want to replace your helmet every five years.
